Where does the hammock's heart beat?
Almost 10 years ago, I embarked on a journey that forever changed my perception of relaxation. Mexico, specifically the Yucatán and Cozumel island (which you can see in my archival video below), is not just a tourist paradise for me. It's the cradle of a craft that captivated me with its simplicity and brilliance.
What captivated me in Cozumel?
Watching this video years later, I still smell the sea breeze and feel that scorching sun. But what caught my attention most back then was the prevalence of the hammock. In Mexico, a hammock isn't a seasonal gadget – it's a lifestyle.
I remember the feeling: I lay down and... I was speechless. This hammock was simply sensational. Absurdly comfortable. In scenes from beach bars (see around [00:01:53]), you can see it best: colorful, string weaves where people simply "are." Without rushing, in complete comfort, cooled by the wind that freely flows through the dense mesh of strings.
Handicraft with a soul
During this trip, I realized that a Mexican hammock is a small work of art. Each one is hand-woven by local artists who pass this technique down from generation to generation. It was there, among the colorful streets and smiling residents, that a dream was born: to bring this comfort to Poland.
I'll be honest with you – back then, lying under that palm tree, I never would have thought I'd be selling them over 9000 kilometers from the Yucatán. I was simply enchanted by the "vibe" and wanted to hold onto it for longer.
10 years later...
