Where parents' relaxation meets children's imagination. The story of our "treehouse"

There are dreams you never outgrow. One of my fondest childhood memories was the vision of a real treehouse. Not an ordinary, plastic toy from the store, but a true adventure base. A place where you could hide away for an entire afternoon, make secret plans, watch the stars, hide treasures, and spend holidays feeling like you had your own, autonomous world.

A few years ago, I decided to fulfill that dream… for my sons. That's how our treehouse came to be.

I prepared the design myself for about 4 months. I wanted it to be more than just a playground – it was meant to become a space that children would remember for a lifetime. A place for shared evenings, sleeping under the stars, and building family bonds. I entrusted the construction to experienced carpenters, but I meticulously created the entire concept, layout, and functionality step by step, tailoring it to our individual needs and children's imaginations.

A Fortress with Three Entrances and a Window to the World

From the beginning, I wanted the children to feel that it was their own safe fortress. Inside, there's a spacious living room accessible by three different routes:

  • Classic: via wooden stairs,

  • Through the balcony: opening up the space to the garden,

  • Agility route: from underneath, up a ladder through a closable hatch with a rope for rappelling – just like in a real commando base.

The treehouse has two traditional, square windows and one absolutely unique one – a huge, round acrylic landscape dome. Children can safely lean out of it and observe their surroundings. This is definitely one of the most magical elements of the entire structure, which transforms into a private astronomical observatory in the evening.

Cinema, Hideout, and Luxury Survival Zone

The interior of the treehouse is a fully-fledged living room, where we used solutions ensuring comfort at any time of day or night. The central point is a huge sofa measuring 220 x 90 cm, which, when unfolded, creates a sleeping area of 220 x 180 cm. The walls behind it are covered with multicolored felt panels, which excellently dampen sound and protect against the cold (as of recently, 2026 ;P ). A large mosquito net is mounted above the bed, allowing us to sleep in the treehouse without problems even in the middle of a hot summer. And that's exactly what we do – for three years, we've regularly organized summer sleepovers there with our sons and neighborhood kids. It's our little survival, but in very luxurious conditions.

Inside, there couldn't be a lack of elements that create a cozy, homey atmosphere. You'll find a table with chairs, cabinets for treasures, a chalk and cork board for drawings, souvenirs from trips, and this is where children hide their 'greatest treasures in the world' – stones, sticks, tickets from trips, and small mementos that seem ordinary to adults but hold immense value for them.

With the windows covered, the treehouse transforms into a cinema room thanks to the installed projector and retractable screen for cartoons. Most importantly for us – two rope chairs from Hamakija.pl are hung inside. This is undeniably one of the most popular attractions. Children practically don't get off them, treating them alternately as a quiet zone for reading a book and an element of dynamic play.

Atmosphere Controlled by App

The treehouse has been fully electrified, and the lighting system is managed from a phone app. Children have three modes available:

  1. Calm and delicate - ideal for winding down and falling asleep,

  2. Bright play mode - based on three strong lamps,

  3. Party mode - with a disco ball that transforms the base into a dance floor.

The external LED backlighting under the treehouse also has changing colors. Additionally, we installed two classic lamps on the facade, styled after old manor lighting, which create an amazing, warm atmosphere after dark. At the back of the structure, there are 15 meters of LED mesh, and for complete safety during evening outdoor play, the area is equipped with strong illuminating poles and driveway lights buried around the entire lawn surrounding the playground.

Slow Life Playground

The treehouse is the heart of the zone, but the garden around it thrives. Attached to the structure are a slide, a climbing wall, a rope, swings, and a stork's nest swing.

However, the most important zone from a parent's perspective is located directly under the treehouse. There, we've created a shaded space for a large, family hammock. It's in this spot that we most often catch moments of breath in the spirit of slow life, relax after an intense day, and record material for you to see on our social media profiles. While the children upstairs transform their base into a castle or a fortress, we downstairs have our own sanctuary of relaxation.

And sometimes... the treehouse turns into a disco

When we designed the treehouse, we envisioned a place for playing, reading books, sleeping over, and relaxing. We only didn't foresee one thing — that from time to time it would transform into a real dance hall.

A few colorful lights, the children's favorite music, and suddenly the whole garden comes alive. Laughter can be heard from afar, and the treehouse becomes a place where memories are born that can't be bought in any store.

It's moments like these that most confirm our belief that building the treehouse was one of the best family decisions. Not because it's perfect. Not because it looks like it's straight out of a catalog.

But because it's used every single day.

Sometimes as a secret agent base. Other times as a pirate ship. Sometimes as a place to sleep over. And sometimes simply as the highest disco in the neighborhood.

And I guess that's what childhood is all about.

Before the colorful lights and dance evenings, there was the first night. A bit of excitement, a bit of uncertainty, and immense joy at being able to fall asleep in your own treehouse high above the ground.

It's one of those texts we like to revisit ourselves.

Construction for Years - Technical Background

Beautiful appearance is one thing, but safety and durability were a priority. The entire structure is set on solid metal supports with rubber insulation, which completely isolates the wood from ground moisture and protects it from biological corrosion.

The ground under the treehouse was properly compacted and covered with a 20-centimeter layer of washed sand with the addition of quartz sand, which gives a great visual effect and provides safe cushioning during falls. The wood is regularly treated with specialized paint that protects the material from UV rays and rain, while allowing the structure to breathe.

Memories are What Matter Most

Today, looking back, I know one thing. This is not just another garden structure. It's a memory factory and a physical anchor of childhood. A place where my sons run as soon as they wake up and from which they don't want to return when darkness falls.

And I guess that was the point from the very beginning. In today's fast-paced world, the greatest luxury is not objects. It's time spent together, space for imagination, and moments when we can simply be together without rushing.

In a few years, the treehouse will probably change. The children will grow up.
But I believe that one day they will remember those evenings – the lights under the treehouse, sleeping together under the mosquito net, secret bases, and laughter echoing throughout the garden.

And I guess that was the point from the very beginning.

P.S. As promised, here's the treehouse layout ;)
