Over the past few years, we have installed hammocks and hammock chairs in hundreds of different locations – from gardens and treehouses, through modern apartments, to small balconies in apartment blocks. In this guide, we have gathered experiences from our own projects and answers to the most frequent questions from Hamakija clients. If you are planning to buy a hammock or are looking for the best way to install it, this article is for you.
How much space does a hammock need and at what height should it be hung?
This is one of the most common questions from our clients. Many people worry that a large family hammock requires a huge garden. In practice, it most often turns out that there is more than enough space.
Hamakija offers both single-person models and very large family hammocks, such as Playa XL, Tropical XL, Tropical XXL, Gringo XXL and Jardin L. The largest models, such as Tropical XXL and Gringo XXL, can reach an impressive 2.5–3 meters in usable width when unfolded. This generous space allows two adults, a parent with children, or sometimes even an entire family to relax comfortably in the hammock.
For comfortable installation, it is worth following the values below:
| Installation Parameter | Recommended Value |
| Distance between attachment points | 3.5 - 5 m |
| Height of attachment points | 180 - 220 cm |
| Height of the hammock's center under load | 40 - 60 cm |
If you have more space, the length can be easily adjusted using ropes, straps, or mounting chains. Remember that the hammock should not be stretched taut like a string. A gentle curve is completely natural and greatly affects the comfort of rest.

Cotton or nylon hammock - is the installation method different?
In terms of installation, both types of hammocks are hung in the same way. Differences appear only during daily use.
Cotton models (Tropical XL, Tropical XXL, Playa XL) are exceptionally soft and pleasant to the touch. On the other hand, nylon models (Gringo XXL, Jardin L) were created with more demanding usage conditions in mind. Nylon is exceptionally durable, dries faster after rain, and is perfect where the hammock remains outdoors for most of the season. That's why we often call Gringo XXL a hammock for special tasks.
How to hang a hammock between trees?
This is by far the most popular and atmospheric installation method. If you have two appropriately spaced trees, creating your own relaxation zone will only take a few minutes.
For safe hammock hanging, it's best to use:
-
wide tree straps,
-
special hammock ropes,
-
dedicated mounting kits

We never recommend screwing hooks directly into living trees. Straps not only protect the bark from damage but also allow for easy height adjustment and quick hammock removal after the season. In our garden, hammocks hung between the trees by the treehouse for many years.

Installing a hammock on a building wall
The lack of suitable trees doesn't mean giving up on a hammock. More and more clients are choosing to install hammocks next to their homes, on terraces, in gazebos, between building walls, or in conservatories. For masonry walls, chemical anchors, mechanical anchors, and professional mounting brackets are most commonly used.

Chemical anchors are a particularly popular solution because they provide a very durable fastening in concrete and solid brick. Remember, however, that every wall is different. Concrete, solid brick, hollow brick, or aerated concrete have different strength properties, so the installation method should always be adapted to the type of building structure.
Can a hammock be installed indoors?
Yes! More and more people are using hammocks not only in the garden but also indoors. The most popular installation places are the living room, children's or youth's room, study, mezzanine, and conservatory. Models Playa XL and Tropical XL are particularly well-suited here, creating a unique place for reading books, watching movies, or a short afternoon nap.
Can a hammock be installed on a balcony?
Absolutely. More and more of our clients live in apartments or blocks and are looking for a way to create their own relaxation zone without the need for a garden.
Mexican hammock installed on an apartment balcony.
The photo above shows one example of such an installation. The hammock was attached between two structural elements of the balcony, creating a comfortable resting place without taking up additional floor space.
Models particularly well-suited for balconies are: Playa XL, Tropical XL, Margarita L, Descanso L and Jardin L. Before installation, ensure that the chosen mounting points are load-bearing elements of the building. Our mounting kit, equipped with an adjustable chain and carabiners, also works very well for such installations. Many clients later admit that a balcony with a hammock becomes their favorite place for morning coffee or an evening book.
Relaxation instructions - how to lie correctly in a hammock?
This is one of the most common mistakes. Many people lie in a hammock for the first time exactly along its axis. This is not the correct position in a Mexican hammock.
Correct diagonal lying in a Hamakija Mexican hammock
In a traditional Mexican hammock, you lie diagonally. This allows:
-
the body to lie flatter (which is healthier for the spine),
-
the material to open widely and not block the view,
-
the back to receive much better support,
-
rest to become much more comfortable.
That's why people who previously only used narrow market hammocks are so positively surprised by the comfort of the Descanso L and Jardin L models.

How to install a hammock chair?
If you have less space, a hammock chair (also called a Brazilian chair) can be a great solution. Our offer includes cotton models (Brasil XXL, Maya XL, Merida XXL) and nylon models (Brasilera XXL, Mayo XL).
The largest Hamakija hammock chairs are significantly larger than most models available in stores. They comfortably accommodate an adult and allow you to sit comfortably with a book, laptop, or a cup of coffee.
Hammock chair installation on the ceiling and terrace
This is one of the most frequently chosen solutions. A hanging chair can be attached to a reinforced concrete ceiling, a wooden structural beam, a covered terrace, a balcony, or a loggia.
⚠️ Important: Do not mount the chair solely to plasterboard or suspended ceilings!
What hammock mounting kit to choose?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions. That's why we have prepared a complete Hamakija mounting kit (coming soon), which we ourselves use during installations for our clients.

Every place is different, which is why we always try to choose a solution tailored to the specific space and client needs.
Meet Wojtek - our hammock installation specialist

Wojtek during a professional hammock installation for a Hamakija client
Wojtek is behind most of our projects. For over 20 years, he has been helping clients create spaces where they later gladly return for morning coffee, an afternoon book, or family relaxation. Over these years, he has probably seen everything – hammocks hung between old trees, modern apartments in the city center, small balconies in apartment blocks, terraces, gazebos, summer houses, and children's rooms.
When we ask him about the most common mistake made when hanging, he almost always replies:
"People stretch the hammock too much. A hammock should invite you to relax, not look like a rope for pulling a truck."
And there's a lot of truth in that. That's why Wojtek doesn't just install hammocks – he helps hang them in a way that maximizes comfort.
Professional installation of hammocks and hammock chairs - Warsaw, Łódź and surrounding areas
Not everyone has the time, desire, or appropriate tools for self-assembly in hard concrete or on a facade with thick polystyrene. Therefore, for clients from Warsaw, Łódź and surrounding areas, we offer the possibility of individual pricing and professional installation.
We help in assessing the location, selecting appropriate fixings, and safe installation to masonry walls, reinforced concrete ceilings, or wooden terrace structures. In most cases, it is enough to send us a few photos of the installation site so that we can propose the best solution.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can a hammock be installed indoors?
Yes. More and more people are opting to install hammocks inside homes and apartments. The key is to use appropriate anchors (e.g., chemical anchors) and install them in load-bearing walls or the main ceiling.
Can a hammock be left outdoors all season?
Nylon models, such as Gringo XXL or Jardin L, are very weather-resistant and dry quickly. However, to extend the life of any hammock, we always recommend taking it down during prolonged rainfall and outside the summer season.
What load can a hammock support?
Each model has a maximum load specified by the manufacturer (usually from 150 kg to as much as 300 kg for XXL models). Detailed technical data can always be found on the product page in our store.
Do you install hammocks outside Warsaw and Łódź?
Our main operating area is Warsaw, Łódź, and the surrounding areas, but for specific or larger projects, we also carry out installations in other locations in Poland. Contact us to discuss the details.
Can I install a hammock myself?
Of course, with our mounting kit and basic tools (drill, wrenches), it is absolutely possible. However, if you have doubts about the strength of your wall or ceiling, it is worth consulting us before drilling.
Summary
Whether you choose the family-sized Tropical XXL, the exceptionally durable Gringo XXL, the versatile Playa XL, or one of our large hammock chairs, proper installation is key to comfortable relaxation.
A well-hung hammock should not resemble a taut rope. It should form a gentle, natural arc that allows the material to perfectly conform to the body's shape. And if you're unsure how to do it best – write to us. We will gladly advise, help choose the right fixings, or prepare an individual installation quote. Because at Hamakija, we believe that a good hammock is not just a product – it's a place you want to return to every day. 🌿🏡
