What did… three turtles teach us about peace of mind and good design?

There are days when the world moves too fast. The phone won't stop vibrating, the to-do list seems endless, and you realize you haven't had time to take a deep breath all morning.

In such moments, we go out into the garden. And almost immediately, we slow down.

Why? Because the best experts in slow life – our three Greek tortoises – teach us about true, undisturbed peace there. Meet Haker, Ninja, and Batman. 🐢

For our sons, they are the best companions for play and building sand labyrinths. For us – a part of everyday life without which it's hard to imagine summer evenings. And for the Hamakija brand? Probably the most authentic (and stylish) ambassadors of relaxation close to nature.

Turtle paradise with a tech twist

During winter, Haker, Ninja, and Batman live in huge, indoor terrariums. But their real summer season begins with the arrival of spring. That's when they move to their private, summer enclosure measuring 2.5 x 3.5 meters.

And honestly? Forget about a plain enclosure. We created a modern, small, fairytale ecosystem for them, perfectly blending wild nature with design and technology.

• Private flowery meadow: From spring to autumn, the enclosure is filled with colorful flowers that attract butterflies, bumblebees, and moths. The whole thing lives its own fascinating rhythm.

• Turtle-class SPA: In the very center is a mini-pool that automatically fills with fresh, clean water every day. The turtles love to drop in for a morning chillout.

• Atmosphere-creating lighting: The entire area is surrounded by a wall of grey, aged, antique brick. No raw technology visible – everything is hidden with class. When the garden begins to fall asleep in the evening, hidden LED strips light up in the crevices between the bricks. The warm light subtly illuminates the flowers, plants, and turtle shells, creating a modern, almost cinematic atmosphere that no photo can fully capture.

Apartment with full insulation and thermostat

At the center of this ecosystem stands their private house. We built it from thick, solid OSB board and fully protected it with metal sheeting, making it completely resistant to the whims of the weather.

Inside, however, there are no Spartan conditions. To ensure the highest level of comfort, the house was perfectly secured and insulated from below with thick styrodur. This ensures that ground chill cannot enter. Additionally, we installed smart heating controlled by a thermostat, which maintains the ideal temperature regardless of how cool the night is. Plus, fresh, soft sand and fragrant hay for sleeping. Comfort at the highest level.

And it was by observing them in this modern paradise that we realized something very simple. Turtles are in no hurry. They simply perfectly celebrate the space we created for them.

A Mexican lesson in premium version

When we first visited Mexico – the place from which our love for traditional blankets and intricately woven, string hammocks originates – we were delighted by how naturally the local people combine raw beauty with the celebration of leisure time. We try to bring this same unique atmosphere into our garden.

Sometimes we spread our thick, densely woven Mexican blankets on the grass. Haker, Ninja, and Batman love to walk on them – it looks amazing when these small, dignified animals march across dynamic Mexican patterns, exploring the unique texture of the material with their paws.

The children build sand labyrinths for them, and we watch with fascination their incredible curiosity about the world and their pure, animal emotions. The most magical moments, however, come at dusk.

Swinging at the highest standard

Yes, you read that right. Our turtles love hammocks.

When the sun begins to set, and the LEDs hidden in the wall illuminate the enclosure, we take the boys with us to this unique, intricately woven mesh of thousands of soft strings. The Mexican string hammock has the characteristic of perfectly adapting to any body shape... and as it turns out, to a turtle's shell too!

The boys then lie calmly on our chests or snuggle up close, hiding their paws. Crickets can be heard in the background, the strings perfectly and without any pressure support all of us, and the hammock lazily swings between the trees. The scent of summer air mixes with the aroma of wood, and the day's stress evaporates from our minds. That's when time truly stands still.

Garden without filters, life with soul

Our garden was not created to look sterile like something out of a catalog. We wanted it to live, to have its unique character, a touch of modern design, and plenty of authenticity. It has space for children's laughter, advanced garden innovations, beautiful, traditional craftsmanship from Mexico, and three small turtles who remind us of the most important things every day.

The world really won't collapse if you put down your phone for a moment, lie in a good string hammock, and simply allow yourself to… be.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your well-being is to shift into a lower gear, surround yourself with beautiful things, and slow down to a turtle's pace. 🐢✨
